The Sustainable Households theme hosted a grant development retreat at Loch Insh Outdoor Centre from 28th – 30th August.
Welcoming seed fund awardees from The University of Edinburgh, the University of Strathclyde, the James Hutton Institute, the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Stirling, the retreat provided a dedicated space for teams to collaborate and develop ideas.
Participants from across a diverse scope of disciplines, including sociology, science and technology studies, geography, Celtic & Scottish studies, architecture, business and music, worked in ‘writing teams’ to develop and refine their research ideas, identify potential funders, and write drafts for future research proposals. The retreat provided a dedicated space for focus and reflection; some groups spent time in their lodges, some had conversations by the loch, and others used the on-site café.
The retreat welcomed back many familiar faces from our January retreat alongside some new collaborators. Loch Insh was an excellent location for overcoming complex challenges amongst beautiful surroundings and participants took advantage of this by using their free time to walk around the loch, swim, or even kayak!
We look forward to continuing to support groups as they develop Sustainable Households funding proposals, particularly through liaising to provide editorial support.
