SUMMARY:Decarbonising Heat Crucible 2025
DESCRIPTION:A Collaborative Approach to Decarbonising Local Communities [Registration now closed]\nThe Decarbonising Heat Crucible is an innovative event designed to support local authorities in decarbonising social housing and other challenging sites. This event aims to bring together three local authorities with diverse resources and needs\, together with a range of experts from academia\, supply chain companies\, technology sectors\, regulators\, planners\, and more. \nWe are running an initial registration of interest as numbers are limited\, and it is important that we have cross-sector representation at the workshop. \n\nWorkshop Details: \n\nDates: 23 – 25 April 2025\nLocation: Double Tree Hilton Hotel\, North Queensferry\nDuration: 3 days (10 am start on day one\, 4 pm finish on day three)\nCost: Free (including room and board)\nRegistration of interest Deadline: 28 February 2023\nConfirmation of place: Week commencing 17 March 2025\nFurther info Contact: Prof. Zoe Shipton and Dr. Jen Dickie at sraehl@st-andrews.ac.uk\n\n\nWorkshop Highlights: \nInterdisciplinary Collaboration: Bringing together researchers from various disciplines (e.g.\, science\, engineering\, social science\, health)\, institutions\, and sectors. \nLocal Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local authorities\, community organisations\, and industry to co-develop capital funding projects. \nProfessional Grant Writing Support: Attendees will be supported by professional grant writers to develop research opportunities around three nominated sites and areas. By the end of the workshop\, each local authority will have a proposal drafted for capital funding. Academics and other stakeholders will also have drafts for UKRI\, Innovate UK\, Horizon 2020\, and Scottish Government funding for fundamental research and product development\, driven directly by local authority needs and requirements. \nCapacity Building: Academic attendees will represent their home institutions and disciplinary networks\, building consortia for funding applications. \nNetworking Opportunities: Local stakeholders will benefit from developing capital funding proposals\, building a network of academic expertise\, and co-constructing relevant research. \n

DESCRIPTION:How can we visualise the co-benefits of climate action? And\, can co-benefits visualisations advance the integration of co-benefits into climate change policies\, programmes\, and projects? \nJoin us on Tuesday 6 May at the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute (ECCI)\, from 12-4pm\, for the launch of the UK Co-Benefits Atlas (UKCBA).  Drawing on the analysis pioneered by the ECCI for the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC)\, the UKCBA aims to make co-benefits data and analyses more accessible for businesses\, investors\, researchers\, third sector organisations\, and policymakers across Scotland and the UK. \nAs the importance of social and community co-benefits in achieving climate change and net zero goals becomes ever more apparent\, the UKCBA promises to be a vital tool for local authority officers\, researchers\, project managers\, and policy makers alike. \nThis event is funded by Scotland Beyond Net Zero and the Financial Pathways theme of the Scottish Research Alliance for Energy Homes and Livelihoods. \nGet tickets here.

In today’s research landscape\, the ability to engage effectively with the public is a vital skill that enhances both the visibility and the impact of researchers’ work. \nIn this workshop\, you will be introduced to the concept of public engagement — what it is\, why it matters\, and how it can enhance the impact of your research. Guided by public engagement and research impact experts\, you will explore practical strategies for identifying and understanding different target audiences and tailoring your message (and engagement activities) to resonate with specific audiences while maintaining the integrity of your research. \nThrough hands-on exercises\, you will develop confidence in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively\, using a range of techniques. You will learn how to plan\, evaluate\, and document public engagement activities as part of your broader research strategy—ensuring your work has lasting\, measurable impact beyond academia. \nThis is a full 3-day residential workshop beginning with lunch on the 28th of January and ending with lunch on the 30th of January to allow for travel. \n🏡 Residential Format: \n\nAccommodation in shared rooms.
