Dr Sarah Parry
Sustainable Households Theme Co-Lead
Sarah is a Senior Lecturer in Science, Technology and Innovation Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Following a PhD in the Science Studies Unit at the University of Edinburgh, in 2003, Sarah was appointed as a Lecturer in Sociology. Sarah’s academic roots are in sociology, cultural studies and science and technology studies, which have found expression in research on the social dynamics of stem cell research, cloning, and genomics; public engagement with science; and relations between social science and environmental policy.
More recent research interests have focused on relations between gender and sustainability in affluent countries, focusing on the gender-sustainability-households nexus, particularly through the concepts of work and care. Extending these interests, Sarah is developing writing and research on care – as an ethical and political concern – as offering new agendas for responding to our socio-ecological crises. She is the Director for Sus+, The Edinburgh University Network of Social Scientists for Sustainability, and Partner on UArctic Ocean Incubator.
