About Us
The Scottish Research Alliance for Energy, Homes and Livelihoods was established in October 2023 and is funded by the Scottish Funding Council. As a cross-sector collaborative research alliance we support Scotland’s ambitious climate goals, declared in May 2019, to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, with interim targets including a 75% reduction by 2030.
Vision
Our vision is for cross-sector collaborative research to help achieve an equitable and inclusive transition to a net zero Scotland by 2045.
Aim
Our aim is to foster unprecedented collaboration, coordination, and focus across all sectors of society, creating a research platform for co-design that breaks down silos of knowledge and expertise to tackle the defining challenge of our century.
We aim to:
- Influence policy by strengthen stakeholder capacity for engaging with and contributing to policymaking at local and national levels in Scotland
- Build a diverse, interdisciplinary research community that bridges gaps between academia, industry, government, and local communities.
- Organise events, workshops and residentials that can offer training, build expertise and expand networks for our stakeholders.
- Support Early Career Researchers (ECR), empowering the next generation of researchers by fostering the development of ECRs as emerging leaders through skills workshops, building capacity by expanding network connections with stakeholders and developing collaborative interdisciplinary cross-sector research.
- Provide seed funding to drive cross-sectoral research, as a catalyst in the process to support ideas from inception to reality.
How can we achieve this without exacerbating socioeconomic inequalities ensuring a net zero Scotland for all?
Achieving an equitable and inclusive transition to a net zero society is hugely challenging and deeply complex. No single sector in society can tackle this alone. It will require unprecedented collaboration, coordination and focus.
We recognise that the major challenges in transitioning to greater sustainability and achieving net zero by 2045 fall into three broad themes: sustainable households, decarbonising heat and financial pathways.
